  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a narrowing of the airways. This occurs in two main forms; chronic bronchitis and emphysema. COPD symptoms affects over 15 million Americans. 
  • Risk factors for COPD include exposure to gases or fumes, exposure to heavy amounts of secondhand smoke or pollution, and frequent use of cooking products without proper ventilation. 
  • Chronic bronchitis involves a long-term cough with mucus. 
  • Emphysema is the destruction of lungs over time.
  • Most patients with COPD have a combination of both chronic bronchitis and emphysema.
